Three Soldiers explores the role of the 54th regiment, an African American army unit that was charged with guarding the California coastline during World War II. The three soldiers featured in the video, performed in overlap by me, depict three archetypes: the loyal solder, the wary soldier, and the transcendent hero. The wary solider, fearing that the real enemy is behind him in Jim Crow America, is the one that steals a glance at the viewer.
